A meeting of the Medical Board was held this
evening to consider the question asked in your letter.
Question i a.
The Board is agreed "That machine skimmed milk is
not suitable for the feeding of infants under one year of age".
Question i b.
The Board considers that it is necessary to
insert words to that effect on the label.
They recommend that the words inserted should be
as follows:- "Machine skimmed milk should not be used for feed-
-ing children under one year of age".
The Board recommends that these words should be
printed in large and legible type, in English and Chinese, both
on the outer wrapping and on the label on the tin.
apply to tins
Question 2.
The Board recommends that the above should only
of milk sold for local consumption.
The Medical Board considers that it is appointed
to carry out certain definite duties under the Medical Registra-
-tion Ordinance, 1864. (Quo vide Sect. 10: reference Sects. 13 &
14.)
Although the Board will be most willing in the
future, as it has been in the past, to give its' opinion and
advice on any question sent to it for consideration, the Board does not think that this should be made one of its official
duties, and therefore the Board considers it inadvisable that the
words "on recommendation of the Medical Board" after the word
"may" in Section 3, should be inserted in the proposed Ordinance.
I am etc.,
(3d.) F. 0. Stedman, Hon. Sec.,
Med. Board.
The Honourable
The Colonial Secretary.
